 Dr. John C. Reynolds:

Dr. John Reynolds is the owner of the Pittsfield Veterinary Hospital & Shaker Hill Pet Resort, Medical Director for the Veterinary Hospital, full time Veterinarian in the hospital and Chief Maintenance Man for the facility.  He has owned the Hospital since 1996, taking it from a solo practitioner hospital in the house by the road, to a two and a half vet hospital with pet resort in the big building up on the hill.  As a veterinarian he is a general practitioner with special interests in ultrasound, emergency medicine and Pugs.

As a practice owner he enjoys guiding the staff through the growth of the hospital and resort and continues to look for ways to improve the care and services that the hospital provides.  He can also be found changing light bulbs, unblocking drains and hanging pictures throughout the building.

Dr. Reynolds graduated for the New York College of Veterinary Medicine in 1989.  Following graduation he completed a year internship program at the Oradell Animal Hospital in Oradell, NJ.  During this program he worked with board certified internists and surgeons to learn about the practice of veterinary medicine.  It was here that he also wetted his appetite for emergency medicine through the long hours of in house on call.  Following the internship program he worked in different small animal hospitals in Syracuse, Western New York and Plattsburg, before moving to the Berkshires.

Dr. Reynolds is married to Valeri Reynolds, who works as the Bookkeeper for the hospital (see her bio).  They live in Richmond with their three daughters Julia, Ceci and Sonali.  Don't be surprised if you meet them at the hospital they love to hang out and watch Dad work or help the receptionists up front.

The other members of the family include Monica, an English Cocker Spaniel, Snortly Nortly, a stout black Pug who is know for his vet column in the Animal Life newspaper and Bubbles, a cute little English Toy Spaniel who actually belongs to Julia.  Casa Kitty, the black cat, is currently the lone cat of the house.  She loves to sneak out and act as a predator.  Cream Puff is the not so nice rabbit that lives in Sonali's room.  He is litter box trained and is much happier to run around the living room.

Outside the house is a small barn where Muffy and John Henry live.  They are Toy Shetland ponies that are retired from Personal Ponies an organization that places Toy Shetlands with children with disabilities.  They are tiny with Muffy weighing only one hundred pounds and John Henry a little bigger.  They are sweet and love to visit nursing homes and schools.

Finally there is Irish Justinian (Ij) and Nique.  They are both Morgan Horses that are used by Valeri and Julia for riding.  Ij is older and a gentleman, helping Julia to learn how to ride and show in the ring.  Nique is only four and just starting to learn how to be ridden and to drive.

When Dr. Reynolds is not at the hospital or acting as a chauffer for the kids, he is at home with the kids, loves to make breakfast, build rock walls, dig ditches, cut grass and build things.  He also has been very active in the Rotary Club of Pittsfield, acting as a board member and treasurer for the last three years.  Currently he is chairman of the Animal Control Commission for the City of Pittsfield.  This commission oversees the Animal Control Department of the City and helps to implement change.  Finally, he is a big fan of the Berkshire Humane Society, performing many surgeries and services for them, as well as supporting their fund raising activities.
